A family hideaway designed for modern, easy living, The Chelan Lake House was inspired by the essence of “camp life” and a family’s love for the outdoors. After roughing it on the property for 8 years in a 32-foot Airstream trailer, the owners sought to build a second home for their young family of five. Essential to the design was its integration with the site, consideration for the history and culture of the region, use of natural light and views, indoor/outdoor connection and accommodation of many guests. Aesthetically, we developed a materials palette inspired by the region. Rustic reclaimed wood elements, painted rough-sawn horizontal paneling, and end-grain wood floors juxtapose modern board-formed concrete walls, clean-lined casework and detailing throughout. The furnishings were selected as an extension of the architecture and the family’s youthful easy style. Boutique furniture makers created signature pieces like the dining table and coordinating bench, as well as the kitchen bar stools. Large national retailers were sourced for items like dining chairs and deck furniture. Even the seemingly custom master bedroom furniture was purchased from Crate and Barrel then paired with specialty linens and art for a more unique statement.
