Lake Chelan
The Chelan Lake House was designed as a family hideaway that embodies modern, effortless living. Drawing inspiration from the essence of "camp life" and the family's deep connection to the outdoors, this second home was envisioned after the owners spent eight years in a 32-foot Airstream trailer on the property. With a young family of five in mind, the design centered around integrating the home with its natural surroundings, honoring the region's history and culture, and maximizing natural light, views, and the indoor/outdoor connection. Flexibility for all seasons and accommodation of multiple guests were key considerations.
A materials palette was carefully chosen to reflect the local environment. Inspirations from miner’s cabins, barns, alpine structures, and the surrounding landscape shaped the aesthetic, resulting in a modern interior that maintains a sense of traditional humility. Rustic reclaimed wood, painted rough-sawn horizontal paneling, and end-grain wood floors contrast beautifully with modern board-formed concrete walls and clean-lined casework and detailing. The furnishings were carefully selected as an extension of both the architecture and the family’s relaxed, youthful style.
